| Hit The Road Jack By: KJDL News Release Big Changes for KJDL 105.3 FM The local radio station known as JACK FM will be no more as of this weekend. “We’re going country” said Owner/General Manager Dave Walker. “I know that is going to make some of our audience sad but it’s going to make a lot more people happy.” The new format will be “True Country”, country music from the 1970’s through today. The change will be made Monday, January 26th at 6am. “But the biggest difference is our morning team” said Walker. Paul Beane, Dave Taylor, and U-Turn Verne will host “The Morning Show” from 6am till 9am Monday through Friday. Dave Taylor will also host the “Home Improvement show Saturday’s from 9am till Noon. The Morning Show team is coming over from KRBL 105.7 where Paul Beane has been General Manager and Morning Show host for the past 10 years. “The Rebel is undergoing a change in ownership” said Beane who is also a City Councilman. “ I have agreed to stay here at KRBL as it’s manager until the Changers are complete. The I will be joining Dave Taylor and U-Turn Vern at True Country 105.3.” Beane said he is not sure if it will be a few days or a few weeks but he will join the rest of the Morning Show team as soon as possible. “The biggest advantage for us” said Dave Taylor” is that we are moving to a taller tower with more power. The signal put out by KRBL, Idalou is minimal and we have always had complaints from people saying they had a hard time picking us up. Well, that problem is solved as of Monday morning.” The Morning Show will feature “True Country” Hits from the past 30 years and some from today as well as local news, weather and local sports. “ We will also have live interviews with people of local interest and events from communities through out the South Plains” said Walker. The USA Radio Network will provide top of the hour headlines though out the day. The stations line up will also include “Texas Country” Saturday nights from 6pm till 8pm. “It’s the only show in Lubbock devoted entirely to Texas music” said Program Director JD Walker who will host the program. “We are going to feature a lot of talent from here on the South Plains and from around the state. We’ll have their latest music and interviews and where they will be performing.” True Country 105.3 will also continue to broadcast Frenship High School sports. “We have been committed to Frenship ISD since we first went on the air with our AM station more than three years ago” said Dave Walker. “Broadcasting local high school sports is an important part of community coverage” said Walker. “ And our core philosophy and mission is about connecting to our community. We look at the entire South Plains region as our community.” Since building out a new taller tower with a lot more power 18 months ago KJDL FM 105.3 has been the home of the nationally syndicated programs that “Plays What We Want.” “The idea behind JACK” said Walker “is an IPOD shuffle, or a juke box; just music from the 70’s 60’s and 90’s and no DJ’s. That’s really appealing at first glance but research shows that there is a disconnect with the local audience. And in today’s market place radio stations need a very strong local presence and community involvement to succeed. Sister station KJDL News Radio 1420 AM will continue with it’s news and talk line up which features the Imus In the Morning Show from 6am-9am Monday through Friday, The Jim Sumpter show, Dennis Miller, Lars Larson and Jim Bohanan. NewsRaido 1420 is the home of Shallowater Mustang sports. “We will have some very exciting news about some changes in our AM programming that will effect local talk and sports” said Walker. Look for an announcement coming within the next few weeks.
