Lake Meredith CRMWA Water Depleting

By: Dave Walker

The Canadian River Municipal Water Authority, CRMWA is expected to approve $26 million for new groundwater projects, even as Lake Meredith continues to dry up. Councilman Paul Beane says water is just going to get more expensive in the future.
“I believe water from Lake Meredith will be cut. But we have a lot of water but it’s a long way from Lubbock. Some of the wells are as far as 165 miles away. The days of cheap water for Lubbock and the rest of the world are over. Lets face it, water is a finite resource.”
And this Friday, the Lubbock City Council meets in another special session.

That agenda includes a settlement between city hall and 19 Garza County landowners. The city wants to access their properties to build a water pipeline between Lubbock and Lake Alan Henry.
NewsChannel 11 is reporting the two sides have settled. The settlement price is $85 per rod, which is less than half the amount landowners demanded but more than the market value as determined by a recent study. Each rod is 16.5 feet long.
