Texas Border Busy For Valentine's Day
By: MetroSoruce News
(Laredo, TX) -- U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers are preparing for a busy week of flower importations for Valentines' Day.
Texas residents along the border got a first-hand look yesterday at Laredo Community College about possible agricultural threats posed by some imported flowers and foliage and learned procedures for inspection. Possible threats include citrus greening disease and the fruit fly. CBP officers processed 500-million cut flowers nationwide in 2008 during the Valentine's Day season. Top ports of entry for cut flower imports were Miami, Laredo and New York.
