| Dallas Headlines By: MetroSoruce News (Undated) -- Here's the latest on the stories making news at this hour: A DeSoto woman died when a man fleeing police crashed into her last night. Michael Irvin has been sued by a woman who claims she was raped. A woman's windshield was shattered by a gallon-jug of water dropped from a downtown Dallas apartment building. And, Tom Hicks may be shopping his Dallas Stars around. >>Woman Killed By Driver Fleeing Duncanville Police (Duncanville, TX) -- A man trying to escape from Duncanville police killed a woman last night when he slammed into her car. The 21-year-old DeSoto woman was gravely injured and rushed to Charlton Methodist Hospital where she was pronounced dead early this morning. The man is now locked up on charges of evading arrest. But with the victim's death, far more serious charges will be coming. It started when an officer pulled the man over for a traffic violation but just as the officer was walking up to speak to him, the man sped away on Duncanville Road. As he swerved to pass another vehicle, he slammed into the victim's car as she was making a left-turn. [[Note Nature]] >>Michael Irvin Sued By Miami Woman Who Claims She Was Raped (Miami, FL) -- Cowboys hall-of-famer Michael Irvin has been named in a civil suit filed by a Miami-area woman who claims she was raped in 2007. The woman's lawyer says they filed the lawsuit after a breakdown in negotiations for an out-of-court settlement. Irvin's lawyer counters, saying this lawsuit is "...tantamount to civil extortion." The woman says the incident happened nearly three years ago. Irvin's attorney says she went to police who investigated and decided there was no crime. No criminal charges have ever been filed. >>North Texas Native, Soap Opera Star Frances Reid Dies (Wichita Falls, TX) -- Frances Reid, the North Texas native who went to Soap Opera fame, has died at the age of 95. Reid was best known for playing Alice Horton on daytime TV's Days of Our LIves from its 1965 debut until her final appearance in 2007 when she was 93-years-old. She was born in Wichita Falls in 1914, although as a child her family moved to California. Reid received two Daytime Emmy nominations during her time on Days of our Lives including one in 1979 for Outstanding Supporting Actress and an Outstanding Lead Actress nod in 1987. In 2004, she received a Lifetime Achievement Award. >>Windshield Shattered By Water Jug Dropped From Apartment Building (Dallas, TX) -- A woman is fortunate to be alive after her windshield was shattered in downtown Dallas last night. Somebody threw, or dropped, a full one-gallon jug of water from an upper floor of an apartment building near Thanksgiving Square. Janae Ackenhausen and a passenger were stopped for the light at Akard and Pacific when the windshield simply exploded in their faces, showering them with broken glass. A gallon of water weighs more than eight pounds so it hit Ackenhausen's car with the force of a small bowling ball. Police can't say for sure if this was an accident or on purpose but they're investigating it as a case of criminal mischief. >>Constable Aims Veiled Threats At Staffers Who Talk To Investigators (Dallas, TX) -- Dallas County's embattled Precinct 5 Constable Jaime Cortes remains defiant in the face of a corruption investigation that has already led to the indictment of his chief deputy. Cortes gave a heated talk to his staff on Wednesday and leaked recordings show Cortes hinting at retaliation at any of his employees who co-operate with investigators. Referring to any possible jail sentence, Cortes says "...if I have to take a ride, I'll come back." To staffers who may be talking to investigators, Cortes says cryptically "...I know who you are." While Cortes is running for re-election on the March 2nd ballot, he's also the focus of at least two probes. Dallas County has hired former FBI agent Danny Defenbaugh to look into activities of Cortes and fellow Constable Derick Evans from Precinct 1. In addition, the district attorney's office has opened a criminal investigation. Cortes's top deputy, Lieutenant Constable Howard Watson, was arrested last week on a range of charges that include sexual assault, tampering with government records and official oppression. >>Cash-Strapped Tom Hicks Shopping Dallas Stars Around (Dallas, TX) -- Less than a month after announcing the sale of his Texas Rangers, Dallas Stars owner Tom Hicks is apparently shopping the hockey team around, as well. Stars president Jeff Cogen says they've received a lot of inquiries about the team. Hicks is clawing his way out from underneath some pressing financial problems and analysts expect he could sell the Stars for quite a profit on the 84-million dollars he paid in 1995. Last year, Forbes estimated the Stars had a market value of nearly 250-million. The Hicks Sports Group cash-flow problems led the Stars to slash more than 20 percent from this season's payroll. Hicks has hired an investment group to study the sale of the Stars. He also has a partial interest in Liverpool FC, an English professional soccer club. British media say Hicks must re-pay 100-million pounds to bankers if he wishes re-finance Liverpool's debt.
