And, Safe Pass law passed by City Council. >>Cyber Security Bill Could Be Boon To Alamo City (Washington, DC) -- The nation has been victimized by a spate of hacker attacks that prompted the House of Representatives to vote for a cyber security bill yesterday on Capitol Hill. The lawmakers approved 639-million dollars for research and development of systems designed to protect computer networks across America. The 24th Air Force based at Lackland Air Force Base is command headquarters for Air Force cyber system protection and would gain immensely from the new bill. Democratic Representative Charlie Gonzalez of San Antonio said, quote, "With this bill, we can further assist in their mission to safeguard our critical military cyber data." >>Man Admits Assaulting Border Agent (San Antonio, TX) -- Rigoberto Torres-Gomez has admitted yesterday he struck a Border Patrol agent with his truck while being chased on a ranch near Laredo. Twenty-nine-year-old Torres-Gomez said he accelerated his truck and hit the agent's wrist and left side. The unidentified agent was on foot and shot Torres-Gomez, resulting in both men being hospitalized. Torres-Gomez is looking at up to two decades in prison and a 250-thousand-dollar fine when he is sentenced in federal court on April 29th. >>Texas Lottery Scam And The BBB (San Antonio, TX) -- A report from WOAI News is warning people about the Texas Lottery and the Better Business Bureau. Some people have become victims of a scam by being told they've won the lottery by someone claiming to be with the BBB. The victims are being told to first send money before receiving the prize. No lottery or sweepstakes ever requires money up front for taxes, processing fees or cost of transferring funds to collect a prize. People who do send money to the scammers will lose two ways, since they will out the money sent along with the prize. >>Safe Pass Law Passed (San Antonio, TX) -- San Antonio City Council members approved a new ordinance yesterday to protect cyclists and joggers. KABB News reports the Safe Passing law will require drivers to give cyclists and people walking or jogging along the roadside three feet of clearance for cars and six feet for trucks. The need for such a ruling drew lots of attention after Greg and Alexandra Bruehler were killed while cycling on Bandera Road last October. >>Full Speed Ahead For Recall Repairs (San Antonio, TX) -- Toyota owners are getting their cars repaired to correct sticky accelerator pedals. WOAI News reports Cavender Toyota says customers were pleased yesterday and felt better getting the work done since many carry spouses and children in their vehicles. Service ManagerJesse Suniga said his staff is excited to finally be able to resolve the problem and take care of their customers.
