And, man tries to include drugs with money d >>Austin To Get Energy From Rooftops (Austin, TX) -- Austin Energy officials are considering a new approach by getting electricity from rooftops across the city. The utility is having difficulty figuring out how to expand solar power in view of budget deficiencies, and the City Council yesterday approved a new blueprint for the solar rebate program. Specialists at Austin Energy are hoping commercial rooftops will be able to supply sufficient electricity via solar power to make the collecting equipment a worthwhile investment. Austin's solar efforts have targeted homeowners and businesses to adapt and personally generate power for their needs. >>Authorities Seeking Armed Kidnappers (Austin, TX) -- Williamson County Sheriff's Department deputies are on the lookout of armed kidnappers who abducted and beat two men and a woman yesterday near Leander. The two men remain unidentified and were treated at hospitals after escaping from a mobile home where the woman was still being held. Several law agencies and a SWAT Team later found the woman who was crying for help. Sheriff's spokesman John Foster reports human trafficking was not a factor in the crime, but the number of gun-wielding kidnappers and a motive remain unknown. >>New Tools For Success At Bilingual Fair (Austin, TX) -- A new program called La Feria Para Aprender is preparing for the largest Hispanic education and college-prep event. Also called the Learning Fair, it's designed to assist Spanish-speaking parents who are not fluent in English to conquer cultural and language barriers in order to help their children's education. Event founder Sylvia Acevedo said the population is already here and to ignore the situation only aggravates the problem. The Bilingual Fair will be held this Saturday, and expects to lure more than ten-thousand attendees at the Travis County Exposition Center. >>Life-Changing Brain Surgery In Austin (Austin, TX) -- Medical experts predict four-million people will have a seizure sometime during their lifespan, and half will be unable to control Epilepsy with medicine. KVUE News reports Dell Children's Medical Center recently launched its pediatric neurosurgery unit that lured some of the best brain surgeons to Austin to give kids a fighting chance. Dr. Mark Lee believes the surgical procedure provides the best odds for the seizures to stop, and until now a child would not have been eligible for an operation until reaching adulthood. Following the procedure on a 16-month-old girl, one grateful relative said, quote, "Dr. Lee has given us some type of hope." >>Man Tries To Place Drugs In Credit Union Account (Austin, TX) -- A worker at the Austin Telco Federal Credit Union reports Anthony Avila deposited 200-dollars into his account, and left a small bag of cocaine in the deposit canister. KEYE News reports the teller notified the police who issued a warrant for the 31-year-old customer. It isn't a smart move to send a baggie containing .88 grams of cocaine through the deposit chute.
