And, radio shock-jock Howard Stern is being touted as a possible replacement for "American Idol" judge Simon Cowell on the popular television show. >>Unemployment Rate Drops In January (Washington, DC) -- Unemployment was down in January. The Labor Department says the unemployment rate fell to nine-point-seven percent, from ten-percent during December. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics says employment fell in construction, transportation and warehousing. Jobs were added in the retail and temporary help sectors. Almost six-and-a-half million people have been without a job for at least six months. >>Massive Toyota Prius Recall May Be Next (Detroit, MI) -- Toyota may be planning another massive recall, this time over braking issues. Up to 300-thousand new-generation Prius hybrids are expected to be recalled in the U.S. and Japan over issues related to their anti-lock braking system. Toyota says it still hasn't made a final decision on the possible Prius recall. The latest setback comes as Toyota scrambles to address a recall of several million vehicles prompted by sticking gas pedals that can cause unwanted acceleration. >>Ten Americans Charged With Kidnapping In Haiti (Port-au-Prince) -- Ten Americans have been charged with kidnapping for allegedly trying to take 33 Haitian children into the Dominican Republic. The five men and five women, all missionaries, were detained last week at the Dominican border with Haiti. They claimed they were taking the children to an orphanage after the January earthquake that devastated Haiti. Haitian officials say the ten didn't have the proper government documents needed to take the kids out of the country. >>Attorneys For Jackson Doctor Negotiating Surrender (Los Angeles, CA) -- Michael Jackson's doctor may be formally charged today with involuntary manslaughter and could surrender to authorities. However, doubts are emerging as to whether that will happen. Yesterday, celebrity website TMZ.com reported Dr. Conrad Murrary's attorney said in a statement that they were negotiating Murray's surrender to Los Angeles authorities, but would not provide any specifics. However, new reports indicate there's some sort of dispute over the terms of his surrender. Murray has admitted to administering a powerful anaesthetic that contributed to Jackson's death last June. >>Self-Help Guru Pleads Not Guilty To Sweat Lodge Deaths (Prescott, AZ) -- A California self-help guru has pled not guilty to manslaughter charges in connection with the deaths of three people at an Arizona sweat lodge. James Arthur Ray entered the plea yesterday over the charges that could land him in prison for more than 37 years if he's convicted. In addition to the three deaths, nearly two dozen people were hospitalized during Ray's "Spiritual Warrior" retreat last October in scenic Sedona, Arizona. [[ NOTE NATURE OF FOLLOWING ]] >>Edwards' Mistress Seeks Return Of Alleged Sex Tape (Undated) -- The legal battle over a John Edwards sex tape may unfold today in North Carolina. Former Edwards aide Andrew Young and his wife, Cheri, are expected to appear in court to contest a temporary restraining order, that forbids them from disseminating the videotape. The tape involves Edwards and his former mistress, Rielle Hunter and was reportedly made in 2006. Hunter gave birth to Edwards' daughter in 2008. >>"American Idol" Producers Want Stern To Replace Cowell (Undated) -- Radio shock-jock Howard Stern is being touted as a possible replacement for "American Idol" judge Simon Cowell on the popular television show. The New York "Post" reports Stern was approached by the show's producers about the possibility of replacing Cowell after repeatedly mentioning on his radio air that he was open to other offers after his exclusive Sirius XM Radio deal expires next January. Stern is one the nation's highest paid radio personalities, while Cowell reportedly was paid 50-million-dollars a year for his role on the Fox TV hit show.
