| Fog/ Failure Causes Cancellations By: Dave Walker Only one flight reported out of Preston Smith international Airport Sunday. The problem was fog and on going problems with the ILS or Instrument Landing System. That was the same problem that caused a dozen cancellations last week. The City put out a news release Thursday saying that the FAA had solved the problem. The early Monday morning flights for American and Southwest Airlines were cancelled. The ILS helps to keep planes on track for a safe landing during weather events such as dense fog. Some planes can use an alternate system and land, but others are not equipped with the alternate system causing delays and cancellations of flights into Lubbock. Airport officials remind travelers to check with the carriers for specific flight information. Story Posted: Mon Feb 8 07:26:31 CST 2010 Created: Mon Feb 8 07:27:43 CST 2010 BACK TO HOME/NEWS |
